“Visualization”
I’m often asked how I bring my ideas to reality successfully. It’s a series of simple but vital steps. Often times when we imagine a scene we do so through the peripherals of our mind’s eyes, but here’s what you can also do, it’s called imaginative spacial awareness.
Visualize what you want to create and hold it in your mind, just hold it long enough until the image stays on its own without you actively trying to keep it together, you may not get it the first couple of times but eventually you will. Once the image is in place, project yourself into the environment, imagine you are a part of the scene as an observer and analyze the setting and the nuances. Now here’s where some creatives may fall off but it’s important to keep practicing. Try moving in the scene mentally to get a different angle by copying yourself, at first you will seem to lose the original perspective, but the fact that the first version of yourself is still in place looking at the first image, it creates an anchor point. If you leave the image on its own without an observer it will dissipate. Because if you move, the image moves. So what I discovered is by imagining another self in a different place in the scene I can multiply that and keep the original point of view or reference point if it falls apart the further out I go. So once you have multiple versions of yourself looking at the scene from different angles it is imperative that this is being done through the scope of a lens. Get down and look low, what would this look like on a 16mm or an 85mm. This way when you show up to execute you get what your mind desires because you did the work in your mind. Of course there are always other factors which inhibit the output but 9/10 times this process works for me. Hope that helps!
